What is HEDIS®?

HEDIS 2008HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) is a set of standardized performance measures for managed care organizations. HEDIS® is maintained by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, a not-for-profit organization committed to evaluating and publicly reporting on the quality of managed care organizations.

HEDIS® measures look at how many of a plan’s enrollees are receiving care that meets national standards. Many of the measures focus on preventive care, such as childhood vaccinations and mammograms. Other measures look at specific care for chronic illnesses, such as asthma or diabetes.
