Interest in government health care programs has possibly never been higher in this country. And with more than a quarter of the state’s population — about 700,000 Arkansans, 400,000 of them children — receiving some type of assistance through the Medicaid program, any changes that come out of the current debate in Congress could have a major impact here.

The Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care is hosting the last in its yearly series of Medicaid conferences for health care professionals Dec. 10 at the Embassy Suites hotel in Little Rock. Arkansas Medicaid Director Roy Jeffus will be the keynote speaker, offering the expected 500 attendees an update on the Medicaid program in Arkansas. The conference begins at 8 a.m., and Jeffus is scheduled to speak from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
